Since the Tekran Model 2537A is the first practical continuous analyzer for ultra low mercury levels, Tekran has been involved in creating the awareness that this capability now exists.
The following sectors are involved in routine monitoring or in research activities using Tekran instrumentation.
Governments
Federal and state/provincial governments worldwide are becoming interested in monitoring both background levels and ambient levels around suspected sources. Since many of these organizations have no previous mercury monitoring experience, the Model 2537A Analyzer and Model 2505 Calibration Source allow quick integration into existing monitoring programs.
Research Institutes and Universities
There is a large, dedicated group of researchers throughout the world whose primary focus is on heavy metals, often mercury. Tekran has worked with many of these users directly. At major conferences dealing with mercury, it is not unusual to find that almost 50% of attendees are users of Tekran equipment. In the majority of cases, these users have purchased multiple units.
Power Utilities
Coal burning utilities are interested in measuring point of impingement values from the plumes of their stations. The US EPA is regulating mercury emissions from coal fired power plants. The Series 3300 Mercury Continuous Emissions Monitor (CEM) can measure total and speciated mercury emissions from combustion sources.
Analytical Laboratories
The automated Series 2600 Mercury Analyzer and Model 2500 CVAFS Detector are used primarily in laboratories. With suitable analytical front ends, the detector can be used for soils, waters, effluent, biota or air sampling cartridges. The Model 2500 can also be used as a detector for Gas Chromatographs. A large part of the market is as replacements for other detectors due to the superior stability and sensitivity of the Model 2500.
