Demonstrated Industry Leadership

Nanticoke Generating Station Ontario Power Generation

Installed in 2003, the first Tekran 3300 CEMS has run in unattended mode with only occasional visits by staff for routine checks. The system maintained a 97% availability in its first full year of operation. The plant runs a blend of PRB and EB coal with a cold side ESP and SCR.

As part of a new mercury reduction pilot project, two mercury CEMS were installed covering both the inlet and outlet of the plant. It has run with only local plant support since August 2004. The plant burns lignite, and has had inlet particulate loadings as high as 4,000 mg/m3.

Two systems were installed for precision inlet/outlet monitoring at a power plant burning EB coal. The systems replaced a previous supplier’s wet chemical mercury CEMS. Both systems have run since January 2005 without service calls.

EPA Field Trial/Kentucky (Wet Stack)

A Tekran Mercury CEMS was installed after a wet scrubber, in “cold” (50°C) and wet conditions. A heated probe was utilized, along with other probe modifications. The unit passed all EPA requirements for 7-day drift, converter efficiency, cycle time and linearity without difficulty. In the second round of tests at this site, only the Tekran CEM was fully operational during the RATAs.
